On September 17, 2025, I created Touchbacks in the Landing Zone innovation to simulate touchbacks that were placed on the 20-yard line. Whenever a touchback occurred, an additional dice roll was required, and dice roll results of 11 through 65 were placed on the 30-yard line. Dice roll 66 was treated as a TBLZ and placed at the 20-yard line.

In accordance with “The Football Database” website there were 1,803 touchbacks (TB) during the 2024 NFL season with 39 being classified as TBLZ (Touchbacks in Landing Zone). Armed with this information, we know that 1,764 of those touchbacks were placed on the 30-yard line and the remaining 39 were placed on the 20-yard line.

After completing the regular season of my 2024 NFL replay (272 games), I wanted to see if  the innovation was hand-grenade close to actual statistics. There was a total of 1,846 touchbacks with 49 being classified as TBLZ during the replay resulting in 10 over actual.

I consider this satisfactory and will continue to use this innovation for applicable seasons.
