Goodbye “Old Friend”

I vividly remember the day that Sascha came to our home. It was Saturday, September 14, 2013, and it was the day of the much-anticipated Alabama at Texas Tech game. For Tide fans like me, it was revenge day on “Johnny Football”. Sascha was a 5-month-old, shepherd/huskie mix, who was found wandering the back country roads of northern Alabama after apparently being dumped. Later that evening, she witnessed her first game of APBA Football and was most curious about the dice. It was game 188 of my 2011 NFL replay and from that moment on she never missed a game.

We have become inseparable partners over the last decade and have logged a lot of miles and rolled 20 full season replays together. I’ve always joked that she forgot more about APBA Football than most folks ever knew. Today she makes her way to the “Rainbow Bridge” and will be forever missed.

  1. Hey Greg,

I know the pain of losing Man’s best friends. I am the type of person who likes to look back at the good memories and laugh about the joy our pets, mainly dogs, bring to us and I hope you can do the same. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Sorry to hear about Sascha Greg. Much like you I have a Husky who lays at my feet as I play APBA. I feel for you and you are in my thoughts.

    • Thank you so very much! It’s funny, I’ve buried both parents, grandparents, uncles, heck nearly everyone is gone and losing a dog in alot of ways is harder. Don’t think I’m insensitive or didn’t love my family because I did but its just a different dynamic.

  3. Sorry Greg. Losing a pet is so hard. I feel your pain, I lost my cat in January and it was so hard. Thinking of you my friend.

  4. Sorry for your loss, Greg. I have a Golden named Shakespeare. He is fairly young. I don’t know what I’ll do when his time comes. Sometimes I think it might be best if my time comes first. I love your replays. Jimmy

  5. Sorry for your loss Greg, Sascha will always be in your heart and will look down and be with you when it’s time to play APBA Football.

  6. Greg, so sorry for your loss. Our fur babies bring us so much joy. Treasure the memories of the time you had together. Your last gift to her was letting her go.

  7. Bro, this breaks my heart. I witnessed Sascha first hand following your games, darn she was there for my 1972 Super Bowl. Keep the fond memories of her….your Dad and Mom are looking over her!!!

  8. I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there many times. Nothing can be said (or done) to take the pain away. Only time. Wait a month or so and get another in her honor and spoil him/her the same way.
