Bengals shock Jaguars
As much as the Jacksonville Jaguars surprised their fans in 1996 by making it to the AFC Championship game, they have equally disappointed their fans with a horrible start to 1997. The Jaguars continued to disappoint as they lost to the Bengals 26-23 in overtime to drop to 1-4 on the season. The Jaguars turned the ball over 4 times and allowed Eric Bienemy to return a kickoff 99 yards for a TD in the loss.
For the Bengals, they are 2-3 now with the OT victory. The Bengals pummeled the Jaguars on the ground by racking up 157 yards rushing. Corey Dillon, KiJana Carter and Eric Bienemy slashed through the Jaguar defense in overtime setting up Doug Pelfrey’s game-winning 31-yard kick in overtime.
Jaguar QB Mark Brunell did throw the ball for 410 yards but had two costly interceptions. Keenan McCardell caught 8 passes for 108 yards.
The Bengals will face Tennessee next Sunday, while the Jaguars will try to get their season back on track by hosting the Eagles.
