Elam boots the Broncos over the Pats
This week’s Monday Night Football game was the Game of the Week. The Patriots and the Broncos battled to the final second to determine a winner between the AFC Powerhouses.
With the score tied at 27 late in the 4th quarter, the Broncos took over with 1:30 left on the clock and one timeout. On a third down and 10, Denver QB John Elway called an audible and handed the ball off to RB Terrell Davis, who scampered for a 12-yard play and a first down. On the very next play, Elway connected with Shannon Sharpe for 32 yards, who ran out of bounds at the Patriot 23-yard line. Davis carried the ball for 2 yards and the Broncos let the clock wind down until 4 seconds where Jason Elam booted a 38-yard field goal to win the game 30-27.
Terrell Davis rushed for 156 yards for the Broncos with 2 TDs and Shannon Sharpe caught four passes for 118 yards and a score. Drew Bledsoe threw for 329 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs, while Shawn Jefferson caught six passes for 164 yards and a TD.
The Broncos are now 5-1 on the season heading into their bye, while the Patriots fell from the unbeatens and are now 4-1. They will face Buffalo next week.
