“Bucking a Birthday Trend”

My wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I answered a “Jets win”. She rolled her eyes and told me to wish for something attainable. I can’t blame her since the Jets must travel to Hard Rock Stadium and take on the Miami Dolphins who are 8.5-point favorites, looking to go 10-4-0 and erase the memory of a brutal Monday night loss to the Titans in which they blew a late 14-point lead.

Going down memory lane, I tried to remember all the times my beloved Jets played on my birthday, so I went to Pro-Football Reference and reviewed the Jets schedule starting with the 1963 season. The depressing results are as follows:

Correction: Game 4. Dallas Cowboys 30, N.Y. Jets 7

Sad to say, that I only actually remember the 2006 victory versus the Vikings because I was turning 4-years old when Joe Namath powered the Jets past the Patriots. It’s funny because this was the game that Namath never remembers taking a snap because he showed up to the stadium ten-minutes prior to kickoff still drunk. His stat line was quite impressive from that game, he went 14 of 21 for 287 yards with 3 TDs for a 149.3 rating.

One of my fondest memories was spending it with my best friend, Mark Zarb. Even though the game was a disaster (game 10), I thoroughly enjoyed Mark’s club-level membership and field pass. We wined and dined, as Bryce Petty threw a couple interceptions and posted a 61.7 rating.
