1997 Game 236 (Week 17) Jacksonville at Oakland

Jaguars take down the Raiders

Jacksonville Jaguar QB Mark Brunell had his best day as a pro Sunday as the Jaguars defeated the Oakland Raiders, 38-21, at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Brunell had a 150.4 QB rating, which is the best rating a quarterback has had this season. He threw for 330 yards on 24 of 31 passing with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Jaguars had a great offensive season but were a disappointment mainly because they had expectations for this season. They were in the AFC Championship game a season ago but fell back this season to a 7-9 record.

Brunell threw for over 4,000 yards this season with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He had two great receivers to throw the ball to. WR Jimmy Smith caught 111 passes this season for 1,720 yards and 12 TDs. His counterpart, Keenan McCardell, caught 95 passes for 1,313 yards and four touchdowns.

As for the Raiders, they finished 5-11 this season but had some big-time highlights. WR Tim Brown broke the all-time single season receptions record as he caught 130 passes for 1,846 yards and nine touchdowns. He broke Herman Moore’s receptions record when Moore caught 122 in ’95 for the Lions.

QB Jeff George had the best season of his career. George completed 58.6% of his passes for 4,518 yards with 34 touchdowns and five interceptions. George finished with a 104 QB rating.
