Boyd’s 1997 NFL Replay Game 79 – NY Jets at Indianapolis

Otis Smith slams the door shut on the Colts

The New York Jets defensive back Otis Smith leads the NFL in interceptions and his sixth was probably his biggest. With the Indianapolis driving deep in Jets’ territory late in the fourth quarter and the Jets clinging to aa 13-6 lead, Colts’ QB Paul Justin’s pass was deflected and hung in the air. Smith dove and caught the football at the 4-yard line and shut the door on any Colt comeback.

The Jets’ QB Neil O’Donnell had an efficient day throwing for 170 yards and a 25-yd TD pass to Wayne Chrbet. The Jets also got 88 yards rushing from Adrian Murrell.

Colts’ starting QB Jim Harbaugh went out in the 1st half with a bruised hip and didn’t return. The Colts got 115 yards in a losing effort from RB Marshall Faulk.

The Jets are now 5-1 on the season and will face the 0-5 Dolphins next week. The Colts fall to 1-4 on the season and will face Pittsburgh on next week’s Sunday Night Football.
