Boyd’s 1997 NFL Replay Game 88 (Week 7) – Miami at NY Jets

Dolphins get a win!

The New York Jets seemed well on their way to their sixth win of the season midway through the 3rd quarter; however, Miami QB Dan Marino showed he still has some magic left in that right arm as he led the Dolphins to a fierce comeback to win their first game of the season.

The Jets went up 17-6 with 9:00 to go in the third when QB Neil O’Donnell connected with TE Kyle Brady for a 35-yd TD pass. The Dolphins countered the TD with a long drive for a 21-yd field goal to cut the lead to 17-9.

Then Marino got hot. He began tossing the ball all over Giants Stadium and he finished off their next drive with a 4-yd TD pass to Charles Jordan. Then Marino hit Abdul-Jabbar to convert the 2-pt. conversion to tie the score at 17.

Then on their final drive of the day, Marino connected with WR Lamar Thomas on two 25-yd pass plays to set the Dolphins up inside the Jet 5-yd line. Abdul-Jabbar capped off the drive with a 3-yd run to give the Dolphins their first win of the season 24-17.

The Dolphins will try to get back-to-back wins as they travel to Baltimore next Sunday, while the Jets (5-2) will host the Patriots next Sunday.
