AFL Team Offensive and Defensive Statistics

I’m always amazed whenever a game on my tabletop nearly mirrors the actual contest on the gridiron. The following is an excerpt of the actual game between the New York Jets and San Diego Chargers on November 24, 1968.

Four Jet interceptions stifled the Chargers’ efforts to reverse an earlier decision, and Joe Namath moved the New Yorkers into a 27-7 halftime lead which they never relinquished. Jim Turner’s three field goals boosted his total to 31, passing the single-season record in the pros.

On my tabletop the Jets had four first half interceptions and six total. When the Jets faced the Chargers at Shea Stadium earlier in the season, the game came down to the wire for a 3-point New York victory. In my replay, the Jets won a one-point, nail biter against the Chargers in their first contest. Joe Namath threw a pair of touchdowns (same as actual) and the Jets entered halftime with a 27-0 lead. Jim Turner booted three field goals on my tabletop but it was his 32^nd not 31^st.
