The Oilers explode in the Desert

The Tennessee Oilers have been sputtering on offense the entire 1997 campaign. They started the season with two wins, scoring a total of 54 points. Then they went on a four-game losing streak where their offense hit the skids, scoring a total of 45 points in those four losses. Last week, they beat the Redskins but could only manage 16. On Sunday, they traveled to Sun Devil Stadium and exploded on the Arizona Cardinals winning 45-31.

The Oilers unleashed a potent rushing attack led by 2nd year RB Eddie George, who rushed for 149 yards on 30 carries and a TD in this game. As a team, the Oilers rushed for 209 yards.

Oilers QB Steve McNair also showed his potential as he threw for 224 yards and 2 TDs on the day. He used the success of the running game to hit TE Frank Wycheck 7 times for 143 yards and 2 TDs.

As for the Cardinals, they have been excited of the play of rookie QB Jake “The Snake” Plummer. He led the Cardinals to a victory and he had a decent day today. He threw for 196 yards and 3 TDs. WR Rob Moore continued his outstanding season as he caught 5 passes for 43 yards and a score. On the season, Moore has 64 catches for 960 yards and 7 TDs in 8 games.

The Oilers (4-4) will try to keep their winning streak going next Sunday when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cardinals (1-7) will take on the Eagles at home.

Cardinals finally get in the win column

QB Jake Plummer has made a big difference in the offense of the Arizona Cardinals. He made his first start as the Cardinals QB and made their offense a lot more explosive. Plummer threw for 271 yards and 3 TDs including an 80-yard bomb to Rob Moore to tie the game midway through the 4th quarter at 24.

Then Plummer orchestrated two drives that resulted in two Joe Nedney field goals that was the difference in the game and gave the Cardinals their first win of the season, 30-24.

Rob Moore has ascended to one of the top receivers in the game as he caught five passes for 136 yards and 2 TDs. He now has 59 receptions on the season for 917 yards and 6 TDs in just 7 games.

The Eagles have now lost two in a row and are 2-5 on the season, which is a far cry from being a top team in the NFC a year ago. They will face the struggling Cowboys at home next week.

The Cardinals will host the Tennesse Oilers next week.
