Redskins stand atop of the NFC East
The Washington Redskins withstood a fierce 4th quarter comeback from the Baltimore Ravens Sunday afternoon at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium to keep their place atop the NFC East with a 5-3 record.
Redskins’ QB Gus Frerotte hit Leslie Shepherd on a 37-yard pass in the 3rd quarter to give the Redskins a 24-13 lead and it seemed like the Redskins had the game in hand. However, Vinny Testaverde started to heat up. Vinny drove the Ravens down and he hit Jermaine Lewis with a 13-yard TD pass with 9 minutes to play to cut into the lead. Then Testaverde hit Earnest Byner in the corner of the end zone to convert the 2-point play to make the score 21-24. Later in the quarter, Testaverde led another drive that yielded a field goal and the Ravens caught up at 24 with 4:30 to play.
The Redskins answered the Ravens drive with a drive of their own. On a third and long, Frerotte found Leslie Shepherd again. This time they hooked up for a 32-yard gain and it put the Redskins down inside the Ravens’ 5-yard line. A few plays later, Scott Blanton kicked a 22-yd field goal, and the Redskins took a 27-24 lead with 15 seconds to go. After a touchback, Chris Dishman picked off Testaverde to seal the game giving the Redskins their fifth win of the season.
The NFC East leading Redskins (5-3) will travel to Chicago to take on the Bears next Sunday, while the Ravens (3-5) travel to the New Jersey to take on the Jets.

Marino shows out against the Ravens
Miami Dolphins’ QB Dan Marino showed that he still has a little magic in that right arm of his. He led the Dolphins to their second consecutive win over the Baltimore Ravens, 27-17, at Memorial Stadium Sunday.
Marino and the Dolphins fell behind early in the 2nd quarter 10-0 and then the future Hall of Famer went to work. He orchestrated two TD drives in the 2nd quarter as he hit Charles Jordan for a 19-yd score and Troy Drayton for a 16-yd TD pass to give the Dolphins the lead. Then he conducted a masterful 2-minute drive and Orlindo Mare kicked a 36-yd field goal as time expired for the half giving the Dolphins the lead 17-6.
On the first possession of the second half, Marino led the Dolphins on a 5 minute, 30 second drive capped off with a QB sneak TD by Marino that surprised everyone. The Dolphins led 24-6 and never looked back.
Marino threw for 225 yards and 2 TDs. He is yet to throw an INT yet this season. OJ McDuffie continues to be one of the leaders in the NFL in receiving as he caught 7 passes for 103 yards.
Ravens’ QB Vinny Testaverde threw for 269 yards on 47 attempts. He had a TD to Eric Green.
The Dolphins (2-5) will try to make it three in a row as they host the Chicago Bears next Sunday. The Ravens (3-4) have dropped two in a row and will try to get back on track Sunday as they travel to the Nation’s Capital to face the Redskins.
