Boyd’s 1997 Replay Game 94 (Week 7) – Dallas at Washington

Redskins outshoot the Cowboys

After falling behind 21-10 late in the 3rd quarter, the Washington Redskins went on the warpath in the 4th behind QB Gus Frerotte and the Redskins outgunned the Dallas Cowboys, 24-21, at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium on Monday Night Football.

The Cowboys proved their championship moxie when they scored two TDs in the 3rd Quarter. Troy Aikman hit David LeFleur in the back of the end zone for a 19-yd TD. Then Sherman Williams plunged in on a 3-yd scoring run.

The Boys seemed to have all the momentum until Frerotte started to move the Skins. He hit Larry Bowie for a 34-yd TD pass and then moved the Skins inside the Dallas 5-yd line on a big third down conversion to Leslie Shepherd. Then Terry Allen capped off the comeback with a 4-yd TD run.

Aikman had one more opportunity to move the Boys into position of a field goal to tie the score, but his pass was batted in the air and Darryl Pounds outrebounded a few players to seal the win with a big interception.

The Redskins now take control of the NFC East with a 4-2 record, while the Cowboys have dropped two straight games to even up at 3-3. The Redskins travel to Tennessee next week, while the Cowboys hope to get back on the horse as they host Jacksonville next week.

Boyd’s 1997 NFL Replay Game 71 – Dallas at NY Giants

Giants pour it on the Cowboys

The New York Football Giants started fast. Dave Brown threw a 49-yd TD bomb to Chris Calloway. With Brown going down with a chest injury, Danny Kannell came in and he immediately hooked up with Calloway for a 17-yd TD pass to give the Giants a 14-0 lead over their arch-rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys defense controlled the rest of the game, and the Cowboys even took a 15-14 lead early in the 4th quarter when Emmitt Smith plunged in the end zone from a yard out. However, on the final drive, the Giants rallied behind Kannell and he threw a bomb to Calloway from 44 yards out to give the Giants a 22 to 15 lead with 45 seconds left.

Cowboys’ QB Troy Aikman tried to rally the Cowboys, but Giants SS Sam Garnes picked off Aikman and raced 54 yards as the final gun went off giving the Giants the 29-15 victory and pouring salt in the wounds of their arch-rivals. The Giants improved to 3-3, while the Cowboys fall to 3-2 on the season.
