Boyd’s 1997 Replay Game 96 (Week 8) Arizona at Philadelphia

Cardinals finally get in the win column

QB Jake Plummer has made a big difference in the offense of the Arizona Cardinals. He made his first start as the Cardinals QB and made their offense a lot more explosive. Plummer threw for 271 yards and 3 TDs including an 80-yard bomb to Rob Moore to tie the game midway through the 4th quarter at 24.

Then Plummer orchestrated two drives that resulted in two Joe Nedney field goals that was the difference in the game and gave the Cardinals their first win of the season, 30-24.

Rob Moore has ascended to one of the top receivers in the game as he caught five passes for 136 yards and 2 TDs. He now has 59 receptions on the season for 917 yards and 6 TDs in just 7 games.

The Eagles have now lost two in a row and are 2-5 on the season, which is a far cry from being a top team in the NFC a year ago. They will face the struggling Cowboys at home next week.

The Cardinals will host the Tennesse Oilers next week.

Jaguars return to form

It took them six games, but the Jacksonville Jaguars finally looked like the team that went to the AFC Championship game a year ago. In front of 69,000 in Alltel Stadium, the Jaguars put up 38 points in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-10.

Don Davey got the Jaguars moving as he got the trifecta on Eagles’ QB Ty Detmer. Davey sacked him, stripped him and recovered Detmer’s fumble in the end zone for a TD! Davey’s awesome defensive play gave the Jaguars a 7-3 lead and the Jaguar offense took over from there.

QB Mark Brunell threw for 277 yards and 2 TDs. Jimmy Smith caught 7 of those passes for 142 yards and a 3-yd TD Pass. Brunell also scrambled in for a 4-yd TD run.

As for the Eagles, they couldn’t get anything going at all. They mustered up 177 total yards of offense. Detmer was eventually benched. Ricky Watters rushed for 68 yards and caught five passes for 33 yards.

The Jaguars will hope to keep this rolling as they travel to Big D to take on the Cowboys, while the Eagles hope to get their season back on track as they host the winless Arizona Cardinals.

Eagles run all over the Redskins

At 1-3 to start the season, the Philadelphia Eagles have looked nothing like the playoff team they were a year ago…until Sunday. The Eagles finally got their running game going and they pummeled the Washington Redskins on the ground rushing for 221 yards in their 17-7 victory at Veteran’s Stadium. Ricky Watters rushed for 150 yard and Charlie Garner had 45.

On the defensive side, the Eagles’ defense shut down the Redskins ground game. They held Terry Allen to just 10 yards rushing and the Redskins to only 56. The Eagles also sacked Gus Frerotte 3 times and picked him off once.

The Eagles are now 2-3 and will travel to Jacksonville next Sunday. The Redskins fall to 3-2 and host Dallas in a Monday Night matchup next week to determine the top spot in the NFC East.
