Chiefs remain undefeated
The undefeated Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Diego Chargers on Thursday Night Football. The Chiefs have been rolling over their opponents over the first six weeks going 6-0. Coming off a bye, the Chiefs struggled to pull away from the Chargers and found themselves in a dogfight late in the game, but they were able to pull it out and stay undefeated with a 20-10 win at Arrowhead.
The Chargers got a major jolt of energy when Eric Metcalf returned his third punt for a TD this season when he tied the game, 10-10, with 9 minutes to play. Metcalf sliced through the Chiefs’ punt cover team for 86 yards.
The Chiefs took the lead on a Pete Stoyanovich field goal and then put the game away with 45 seconds to play when Kimble Anders caught a pass from Elvis Grbac and dove into the endzone to give the Chiefs the commanding 20-10 lead.
The Chiefs’ defense was the story of this game. They held the Chargers to 200 yards total offense. They knocked Stan Humphries out of the game and then sacked backup Craig Whilehan 4 times.
The Chiefs will travel to the Rams next week and then have a brutal schedule that will challenge their undefeated status. They play Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Denver Seattle and San Francisco.
The Chargers (1-6) will host the Indianapolis Colts next week.

Davis overcomes bad day to kick the Chargers to first win
Greg Davis was having a horrible day. He missed three field goals as the winless Chargers battled it out against arch-rival the Oakland Raiders at Oakland-Alameda Co. Coliseum. Davis missed from 28, 42, and 48.
The Chargers found themselves down to the Raiders 23-21 late in the game. QB Stan Humphries got the ball back and he completed five passes in a row to get the Chargers into scoring position. Humphries connected with Eric Metcalf for 25 yards, which set the Chargers up inside the Raiders 25-yard line.
The Chargers couldn’t go any further and they called on Davis to bail them out despite missing three earlier in the game. Davis lined it up and drilled it from 41-yards out to give the Chargers their first win of the season 24-23.
The Chargers are now 1-5 on the season. They got 263 yards passing from Humphries and 71 yards rushing from Greg Brown including 2 TDs. The Chargers will go into their bye.
The Raiders still got explosive offense from their big three. QB Jeff George threw for 252 yards and 2 TDs. Napolean Kaufman rushed for 136 yards and a TD. Tim Brown caught 7 passes for 123 yards and a 51-yd TD pass. The Raiders also go into their bye next week. Then they take on the Broncos.
